30 Hour Famine Update
So the 30 hour famine is over...and it was an interesting experience to say the least. I discovered a few things about myself on the way, some good and some not so good. But I think that overall, I learned that I have a lot more willpower than I originally thought! But enough about that, let me tell you a little bit about the famine...and the 30 hours of not eating, not sleeping, and having amazing times of awesomeness. So the famine started at 8am on Friday morning, and I had to go all day without food, and when you are ridiculously bored in class, food can sound really good, and smell really good, and look really good. But I made it to 6pm where we all met up in CJ's. We played some pretty awesome games (Knights, Horses, Cavaliers for the win!) and got to make posters for the Basketball game! There were 50 tickets donated to the famine, and so we got to all troop over to Bob Davis to see the basketball game, and it was super intense! I think I almost lost my voice from yelling like a crazy person, but it worked because Brock Badgers won! WOOT! There was also a campfire, movies, and lots of hangout time. I didn't sleep (well, maybe a 45 min nap at 6 am) and made it through the first two Lord of the Rings movies. Saturday morning was brutal! I was so hungry, but I knew that it was only a few hours until I would be able to eat awesome pancakes. And so, while watching saturday morning cartoons and crocheting milk bags, I made it through and completed the 30 hours! And even though I was tired, hungry and pretty cranky, it was definitely worth it! 30 hours to help change the world. Would you do it?

30 Hour Famine
Ever heard of the 30 hour famine? It's an awesome opportunity to raise money and awareness for World Vision and the fight against hunger. But what does 30 hours have to do with anything? Well, starting at 8 am today (Friday) I will not be eating anything for 30 hours. Yup, nothing, nada, zilch. Am I excited for the those 30 hours? I wouldn't say excited...but I am interested to see just what I am capable of if I put my mind to it. Plus, it will help knowing that my 30 hours will help someone for more than that. So stay tuned for updates on my adventure into the land of not eating! It's going to be a long 30 hours, but hopefully they will be fun!

Rez is what you make of it
You hear it from your peers, you hear it from your profs, and you definitely hear it from your dons; getting involved is a wonderful thing.
Getting involved doesn't mean going to every event possible, although it can if you'd like it to. Your residence experience can be made that much better by simply attending a house meeting once in a while, looking at some volunteer opportunities, or competing with your House/Hall/Court/Block at an event. Not only does it provide you an opportunity to socialize with your peers, but you also get the chance to explore things that you might not be too familiar with. So get out there and take a chance. We're not going to force you, but we are telling you: some of these events are a heck of a lot of fun, and we think you'd enjoy them.

Money Saving Tips
Two months gone already...crazy how fast time flies. And in those past two months your money probably started to fly out of your pocket too. University life can become super expensive if you don't pay attention to where all of your money is going, sometimes it feels like it just disappears into thin air! But don't worry! I have some super wonderful tips that will hopefully help you like they helped me in my first year! First, looking for a job on campus (or even off campus) is a really good way to help put money into your bank account. There are job postings available at career-services and there are workshops available through student development centre that can help you make an awesome resume! If a job during school isn't for you (I'm in that boat with you too don't worry!) then there are other awesome ways to save money. Planning out a budget may not sound like a lot of fun, but it can really help you keep track of where all of your money is going to (and how much you are able to save too). If you live in a traditional residence, then buying groceries isn't a big money waster for you, however keeping track of your meal plan can be really helpful to make sure that you don't run out by the end of the year. If you don't really like the whole idea of a budget, another good idea is to limit your spending on expensive and not important things. When you go grocery shopping for example, look for sales and don't don't be afraid to use coupons!! And if you don't need something, don't buy it!! Even though you might really want to buy something, if you don't need it, you can save that money and use it to buy something that you actually do need. So hopefully some of these tips will be useful in saving you some money in the many months to come :)
